I was going through my craft items and I came across a large frame mat. This mat was from a frame that I used for a different craft. After looking at the mat I thought it would be fun to add a few wooden shims as a backdrop to create a sign.

A few other items I will be using are:

1. One frame mat

2. Wooden shims

3. Hot glue

4. Stain

5. Paint (color sweet mint)

6. Paint brush

7. Three clothes pins

8. Scissors

I painted the frame mat with a sweet mint colored paint.

I used a stain on the wooden shims.

I did not worry about covering the ends of the shims because they will be covered my the frame mat.

I had to trim the wooden shims just a bit. Be sure to cut the thinner end of the shim if you need to trim them.

I also stained three clothes pins the same color as the wooden shims.

I hot glued the wooden shims to the back side of the frame mat.

I hot glued three wooden clothes pins to the front.

This is optional but the clothes pins can be used for clipping photos or other items. I will be clipping recycled tin cans to the clothes pins so that I can add different artificial flowers throughout the year.

This is so easy to make and can be used different ways. I hope you will get creative and give this a try.

I decided to do a little change up to the frame and I added a stencil around the frame and I will be using a wood filler on the stencil.

This is very easy to do and it turns out amazing. I gave the wood filler time to dry and then I added a stain over the frame.

I am using a walnut colored gel stain over the whole frame. It worked better if I added a little water to my brush.

This is exactly what this frame needed!
