If you love decorating your home or just need a great gift idea then you’re going to want to check this out! I wanted to create something that I can use on my table to hold a few candles or some holiday decor. This wooden tray is so easy to create and you can make it any size that you want.
The supplies that you will need are:
1. One 1 x 3 x 8 strip of wood
2. One 1 x 4 x 8 strip of wood
3. Wood Glue
4. Handles (I’m using some handles I purchased from Hobby Lobby)
The first thing I did was cut my 1 x 4 strip of wood into 4 pieces. After I cut them each piece measured 20 inches long.
I used an electric hand saw to cut these. You can also always ask your hardware store if they will cut them for you.
Next I cut the 1 x 3 piece into two pieces and each piece measured 14 inches long.
If you have some rough edges you can take a sander and smooth them all out.
Next you want to glue all of your pieces together. I placed glue down the sides of my 1 by 4’s and placed them all together side by side.
I used Gorilla wood glue for this step.
I added wood glue to the bottom of the 1 by 3 pieces.
You can place your 1 x 3’s on the edge or bring them in a few inches.
Either way is good it just depends how you want it to look.
I took a nail gun and added a few nails to my top boards but this is an optional step.
Once you glue is all dry you can paint or stain your tray.
I used a cream chalk paint on one and placed a gel stain on top.
I then did a few more leaving one solid cream and the other just stained.
Last step is to add you handles.
These are very easy to make and I hope you will all give it a try. You can use any type of wood and make these any size you want. This tray can be used any where in your home and would also make a great gift!
