When you’re a crafter you are always thinking about the next holiday. I have been trying to come up with some different ways to create some smaller pumpkins. The Dollar Tree has been putting out packs of styrofoam balls which gave me an idea for a quick and easy pumpkin.
The supplies I will be using are:
1. Styrofoam balls (mine are 2.4 in)
2. Drill and drill bit (you want a larger drill bit to create a hole in the styrofoam ball)
3. Paint brush
4. Orange paint (I’m using Georgia Clay)
5. Small sticks
6. Scissors
7. One pipe cleaner
8. Orange yarn (I’m using a thicker chenille yarn from Michael’s)
You will want to use your hand to flatten the styrofoam ball. Push down hard onto the styrofoam ball and then flip it to do the same thing to the other side.
This will help to create the form of a pumpkin.
I then drilled a hole through the center of the styrofoam ball.
I then painted the styrofoam orange.
You will now wrap the yarn around the styrofoam ball. I am using the pipe cleaner as a needle and I knotted the yarn to one end. You will want to go up and through the hole of the styrofoam ball.
I did this while my paint was still wet. You can let the paint dry first but I like how the paint is mixing in with the yarn.
You can use the end of the paint brush to help widen the hole if you have a hard time getting the yarn up and through.
I then tied my ends together and pushed them up into the pumpkin.
I placed a stick down into the other side for a stem.
These are very easy to make and will make great bowl fillers or ornaments on a tree. I hope you will get creative and give this a try.
