I love adding flowers throughout my home for the summer. You will also see a lot of Americana decor throughout my home in the summer. We are always creating a variety of items here at The Shabby Tree and I thought it would be the perfect time to create a flag basket. This will be a fun Americana decoration that can have flowers added to it.

The supplies that I’m using are:

1. One family size cereal box

2. Scissors

3. Natural Jute ( mine is 3-ply and 98 Ft long)

4. Paint brush

5. Americana paint by DecoArt ( colors are Santa Red, Warm White and Deep Midnight Blue)

6. Hot glue

The first step is to cut one side panel off of the cereal box as shown in photo above.

Once you have the side panel cut off you will want to glue the top section of the box closed.

Once you have your box glued it is then time to start glueing the jute onto the box.

You will have the opening of the box at the top and you will start glueing the jute around the bottom of the box.

You will continue glueing the jute around the box until you get to the top.

I curved the end piece of the jute down into the box and glued it in place.

This basket looks great as is and you can add artificial flowers to it.

I want to paint a flag on the front side of the basket.

I used two rows of jute for the flag stripes. This is so easy to make and love how it turned out. You can always use the flag print side for the holiday and then flip to the plain side for an everyday decoration.

I hope you will get creative and give this a try.
