How To Make A Busted Canvas That Lights Up

by blewis | Jul 22, 2024 | Christmas/Winter, Holiday | 4 comments

Ok I’ve been seeing so many different crafters doing a busted canvas craft. This is a great craft and I thought we could try to make one that lights up.
You will find a list of supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. One 8×10 inch canvas from the Dollar Tree
2. One 10oz cereal box from the Dollar Tree
3. X-acto knife
4. Scissors
5. Hot glue
6. One sheet of rice paper from European Excellency
7. Mod Podge
8. Paint brush
9. Hot glue
10. Truffle colored chalk paint by Waverly
11. Antique wax by Waverly
12. Admiral Blue acrylic paint by Apple Barrel
13. Treasure Gold paint by FolkArt
14. Music sheets
The first step is to paint the canvas with the Admiral Blue paint.
The next step is to cut an opening out of the cereal box. Be sure that the opening is not bigger than the rice paper.
Once you have the opening cut out you’ll then want to glue the rice paper over the opening.
The next step is to paint the box with the Truffle chalk paint.
Once the canvas is dry you’ll then add the music paper to the back side.
Place the mod podge onto the canvas and then add the music paper.
Be sure to add more mod podge over the music paper.
Once the mod podge is dry you’ll then cut the canvas.
Once you have the canvas cut you’ll then glue the canvas onto the box.
You’ll want to give the canvas pieces a small curl and glue the ends in place.
Once I had the ends glued down in place I then added some of the treasure gold to the ends.
You can add some of the Antique wax to the box and then add a strand of lights to the box. I’m using a strand of 50 battery operated lights from our website.

You can also find the rice paper that I used on European Excellency by clicking the link down below.

This was so easy to make and looks beautiful at night. I hope you’ll get creative and give this a try.
