How To Make A Ghost Door Hanger

by blewis | Aug 21, 2024 | Fall/Halloween, Holiday | 97 comments

Ok I decided to decorate my front porch with a ghost theme this year. I started putting out some of my ghost and realized I needed a statement for my front door. I decided to make a quick and very easy large ghost for my front door.

You can find the list of supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. One 22” x 28” canvas
2. Black chalk paint by Waverly
3. Hot glue
4. One pack of cheese cloth from Walmart ( 36in x 15yd)

5. White paint or white chalk pen
6. Paint brush
7. Black felt

The first step is to paint the entire canvas with the Waverly black chalk paint.

Once the canvas is painted you’ll then want to cut strips of the cheese cloth. You’ll want each strip to be folded in half and longer than the canvas.

You can cut as many strips as you want. I cut at least 7 strips. Once you have the strips cut you’ll then want to spread the strips open.

I layered all of the strips over one another to form the shape of a ghost. You can leave a few strips folded in the center and then layer a few over them. You want the ghost to be full.

I added hot glue to the back top part of the ghost. This will secure the ghost to the canvas.

You can some extra glue to the back center part of the ghost to help secure it better.

I pulled some cheese cloth toward the sides and glued it in place.

I cut some eyes out of black felt and glued them in place.

I used a white chalk pen to write Boo.

This was so easy to make and will look great hanging on any door. I hope you’ll get creative and give this fun diy a try.

Can’t wait to try this ghost. I have an old lace curtain I painted for my storm door. I can’t through it out but will use it for this ghost. If I need to paint it again I will.
