I’ve been seeing so many red cardinal decorations for Christmas this year which got my mind going. We’re always creating fun and unique items here at The Shabby Tree and I thought it would be fun to create a unique red cardinal.

The supplies that I’ll be using are:

1. One 9” wooden leg from Home Depot

2. Angel wings from our website

3. Red spray paint

4. Red feathers

5. Black acrylic paint

6. Orange acrylic paint

7. One wooden skewer

8. Drill and drill bit

9. One screw

10. Hot glue

You can find the angel wings on our website by clicking the link down below.

I used a screw to secure the wings to the wooden leg as shown in photo above.

Once I had the wings on I then spray painted the entire thing with the red spray paint.

I drilled a hole at the top center to add a beak.

I painted the pointy end of the skewer with the orange paint.

I cut the skewer and added it to the hole. You can add a touch of hot glue to secure it in place.

I painted on some eyes and added some feathers to the top. You can drill a hole down into the center top to add some feathers.

I added a small wooden dowel up into the wooden leg. The dowel will allow me to stick the red cardinal into a tree.

This cardinal is so quick and easy to make and looks great in a tree. I hope you get creative and give this a try.
