Ok the Fourth of July is next week and I want to make some type of flag for my yard. I found myself in Dollar General today and they had wooden stakes for a Dollar. I just knew as soon as I saw them that they would work perfect for a flag. You can use 14 of these stakes to make a very large and amazing wooden flag.

The supplies that I’ll be using for this flag are:

1. Fourteen wooden stakes from Dollar General

2. Saw

3. Drill and drill bit

4. Hot glue

5. Spray paint ( white, red and warm caramel)

6. Americana acrylic paint by DecoArt ( Deep Midnight Blue)

7. Screws

8. Metal stars from our website ( optional)

9. Paint brush

10. Hammer

11. Three small nails

The wooden stakes are from Dollar General and the tag on them is in the photo above. I say this flag will cost $15.00 because the main supply is 14 stakes and they are a $1.00 each plus tax.

The first step is to spray paint all fourteen stakes with the warm caramel colored spray paint. You can create your flag any way that you want and use any colors that you want.

Once the warm caramel paint is dry you’ll then spray paint 7 of the stakes with the red spray paint.

The next step is to spray paint 6 of the stakes white. The last stake will be left the warm caramel color. You’ll want to use the saw and cut the last stake in half. These two pieces will be used to hold all 13 stakes together.

I laid all 13 stakes out alternating the red and white. You’ll want to separate the stakes so that there is an even amount of space between each stake. I eyeballed the spaces and used the 2 smaller pieces to help figure out how much space I needed. You want the 2 smaller stakes that you cut in half to reach the top and bottom stakes of your flag.

I used hot glue to secure my 2 small stakes in place and then I drilled a small hole through each stake as shown in photo above. You’ll be adding screws through each hole to secure all the stakes together. I drilled holes to help prevent my stakes from splitting as I drilled in the screws.

The next step is to flip the flag over and paint the blue area of your flag. I used the Deep Midnight Blue acrylic paint by DecoArt. You will come down 7 stakes with the blue.

I came down 7 stakes from the top and I went 14 inches over with the blue.

The last step is to add your stars. You can paint the stars or add any type of stars that you want. I’m adding some metal stars from our website. You can find them on our website by clicking the link down below.

I cut the small hanger part of each star off and used 3 small nails to attach them onto the flag.

This was very easy to make and I just love how it turned out. I hope you’ll get creative and give this flag a try.
