How To Make Pumpkins Out Of Chunky Yarn

by blewis | Sep 9, 2024 | Fall/Halloween, Holiday | 49 comments

You can find chunky yarn in all colors and it’s a great item to use for crafting. I came across a chunky knit velvet yarn in a beautiful rust color last year. The color of this yarn will be perfect for making pumpkins.
The supplies that I’ll be using are listed down below.
1. Scissors
2. Recycled paper cup or toilet paper roll
3. Chunky yarn
4. Small tree limb
I purchased my yarn last year so I can’t remember which store it came from.
The first step is to cut the cup or toilet paper roll.
You can make the cup or toilet paper roll as wide as you want it to be. Once you have it cut you’ll then cut small slits on each end.
Once you have the slits cut you’ll then fold them in as shown in photo above.
Once you have the slits folded on both ends you’ll then glue the end of the yarn in place. You’ll want to secure the end of the yarn to the inside of the cup.
Once you have the end secured you’ll then start wrapping the yarn around the cup. I did not measure how long my piece if yarn is. You will cut a strand of yarn how ever long you want.
Once you have the entire cup covered and the pumpkin formed you’ll then glue the end of the yarn to the inside side center.
I placed the stem into the center as shown in photo above. You can also add a small amount of moss as shown in photo below.
These pumpkins are so quick and easy to make. They will make great bowl fillers for a Fall decoration. I hope you’ll get creative and give these pumpkins a try.

Oh I love these. So cute!! I’ve been looking for orange or rust chunky β€œshinyish” yarn. Is that brand from Walmart? I’ve been looking for over a month. I didn’t see any there. I love the one from Hobby Lobby but they never have the rust or orange. I want to use it with my Dollar Tree wreath form.

Hey Barb just watched your Home goods shopping trip and would absolutely love a candle from you. I am working on some of the chunky yarn candles now with a lighter color orange. Then I will look for the rustic orange on my next trip to Hobby lobby or Michaels.. thanks for all the great ideas and inspiration to get crafty.
