Paper Casting Using Toilet Paper

by blewis | Jan 9, 2025 | Everyday DIY | 48 comments

I recently ordered some fun wooden cookie molds from Amazon that I’ve been wanting to get creative with. After looking through my craft supplies I decided to do some paper casting with these molds.
You can find a list if the supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. Toilet paper ( 2 ply is best)
2. Water and small spray bottle
3. Cookie molds or stamper
4. Paper towels
5. Color wash tint ( optional)
The first step is to tear 5 to 6 pieces of the toilet paper.
You’ll want to add water to the toilet paper. I found it easier to use a small spray bottle but you can pour a small amount of water onto the toilet paper.
I sprayed a good amount of water onto all 6 layers of the toilet paper.
I flipped the toilet paper over and placed it onto a stamper. You’ll want to add more water onto the toilet paper.
Once you have the toilet paper wet you’ll want to use your hand to press down onto the stamper.
You’ll want to use a paper towel to absorb as much of the water as you can.
You’ll want to remove the toilet paper and set it aside to dry.
You can find the color wash tint that I’m using in Hobby Lobby.
You’ll want to add water and the color wash tint to all 6 layers of the toilet paper.
Place the toilet paper into the wooden cookie mold and add more water and tint.
Be sure to use the paper towel to absorb as much of the water as you can.
Remove the toilet paper from the mold and set it aside to dry.
Once they are dry you can cut around the image and get creative with them. These can be used as ornaments or added to different items.
This was so easy to do and there are so many ways to get creative with it. I hope you’ll get creative and give this fun diy a try.

I have tons of rubber stamps that I used to make cards long ago. I might try this before trying to sell them. I do like the cookie mold better and happen to have a heart shaped one. Will the tint stain the mold?

Can the paper edges be torn while still wet for a raggedy look or is it best to let it dry before handling? Thinking a ripped, jagged perimeter would be super cute and another great place to add Glitter! 😀

I purchased about ten ceramic molds many years ago. Cookies can me made in these also. So much fun. I would place different papers in a blender and create a pulp. Fun results.

Very clever! Even if we have no molds, i.e. cannot do everything 100% all the time for everybody. BUT!! We all can LEARN from your crafts. Maybe take your idea(s) and change around or merely become educated with ideas for the future. ❤️

There must be something around your home that has a concave or convex pattern, the bottom of a glass? A vintage glass bowl, a cute drawer pull. The thrift store or yard sales always has lots of rubber stamps for cheap.
