Now that Christmas is over it’s time to start thinking about Valentine’s Day. I was in Walmart looking at all of their Valentine decorations and I picked up a few heart shaped boxes of chocolate. They have so many different boxes of chocolate but I bought the heart shaped ones to get creative with. I want give one of the heart shaped boxes a makeover so that I can use it on my mantel.for a decoration.
This will be a very easy makeover and the supplies that I’ll be using are:
1. One heart shape box
2. Drill and drill bit
3. Sanding sponge
4. Paint brush
5. DecoArt acrylic paint ( color Espresso)
6. Rub’n Buff ( color Gold Leaf)
7. Hot glue
You can use any heart shape box that you want. I bought this box of Turtles from Walmart.
The first step is to drill holes going around the top of the box as shown in photo above.
Once you have all of the holes drilled you’ll then use the sanding sponge over the holes.
Be sure to sand the top and bottom of the holes. This will sand away any of the paper that is hanging.
The next step is to create a design out of the hot glue. You can create any design that you want. I created a heart out line and then the word love in the center.
Once your hot glue is dry you’ll then paint the box.
You can paint your box any color that you want. I’m using and Espresso colored paint by DecoArt.
It will take a few coats of paint to cover the box.
I decided to leave a little bit of the red from the box to show through. Once the paint was completely dried I then added some of the Rub’n Buff.
Be sure to add the Rub’n Buff to the front and back side of the box.
Once the box is complete you’ll then add some battery operated lights to the inside.
This will now light up and look great at night. I can’t wait to add this to my mantel with my other Valentine decorations.
This is a fun way to get creative with a recycled box. I hope you’ll have fun and give this easy makeover a try.
