I love finding ways to make decor pieces that can stay out all year long, and this wooden advent calendar was perfect for that! It’s shaped like a Christmas tree, but with a little creativity, I was able to give it a whole new look. I found mine on Amazon and used a fun stencil to turn it into a decorative piece that works for any season—not just the holidays!

Here is what you will need for this DIY:

1. A Wooden Advent Calendar – I got mine from Amazon

2. Paint in the colors Buttermilk and Aspaltum

3. Paint Brushes

4. 3 packs of Drawer Pulls From Amazon and a little screwdriver

5. Stencil from WoodUBend

6. A sponge brush (Not pictured)

You can find the tree advent calendar that I am using here on my Amazon storefront: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CYT192F4?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamztheshabb-20&creativeASIN=B0CYT192F4&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.3P1T9U2GJA6TW&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_mixed_d_asin&th=1

I began by giving the front of the tree and all the drawers a coat of buttermilk-colored paint. One layer was all it needed for a nice, even base.

I found it worked best to remove the drawers and paint them separately rather than trying to paint everything all at once.

Next, I painted along the sides of the tree using the asphaltum color to give it a nice contrast and depth.

Next, I grabbed the asphaltum paint again and a sponge brush. Using a stencil, I began dabbing the paint onto the front of the tree to create a beautiful lace-inspired design.

This stencil is from WoodUbend and it is the perfect design! Their stencils are really well made and can be used multiple times!

I didn’t bother taping my stencil down — I just held it in place and gently dabbed the paint over it. It worked out perfectly and gave me great results!

After I finished dabbing the paint, I carefully lifted the stencil to reveal the most gorgeous pattern underneath!

Once the paint was dry to the touch, I attached the drawer pulls.

You can find the exact ones I used on my Amazon storefront. I did have to order three sets to have enough for the whole advent calendar: https://amzn.to/46TDNMS

I used a small Phillips head screwdriver, and the pulls were super easy to screw in.

I love how this project turned out—it’s no longer just a Christmas advent calendar but a beautiful decorative piece you can enjoy year-round. Whether you use it to count down special occasions, store small trinkets, or simply display it as unique home decor, this wooden tree is a fun way to bring creativity into your space all year long.
