DIY Tree Using Chunky Yarn

by blewis | Apr 21, 2025 | Red, White, & Blue | 18 comments

If you’re part of The Shabby Tree then you already know that I love decorating my home with all different types of trees. Summer is quickly approaching and I thought it would be fun to create some trees that I can add to my Americana decor.

You will find the list of supplies that I’ll be using down below.

  1. Chunky yarn
  2. Scissors
  3. Styrofoam cone
  4. Floral pins

The first step is to cut the chunky yarn into two inch strips. I can’t tell you how many you’ll need because it will depend on what size styrofoam cone that you use.
My styrofoam cone is 3.7 inches by 8.9 inches. I did not count how many strips that I used. Once you have the strips cut you’ll then add them to the styrofoam cone by using the floral pins.
Place the floral pin the in the center of the strip and then into the cone.
You’ll continue adding the strips until the entire cone is covered.
You can use the scissors to trim the yarn where needed. This tree was so easy to make and will look great any where in your home. I hope you’ll get creative and give this a try.
