I’ve been curious about flocking for a while now, and I finally decided to give it a try! For this project, I’m using the red flocking kit from Plaid to add a soft, velvety finish to a paper mâché Santa I found on Amazon. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this kit made it easy to experiment—and I’m excited to share how it turned out!

If you’ve ever wondered how to use flocking powder or wanted to give your holiday crafts a cozy, textured look, this is a great place to start. I’ll walk you through what comes in the kit, how I applied it, and a few tips I picked up along the way.

For this DIY, here are the supplies I used:

1. Velvet Crush Kit By Plaid

2. Paper Mache Santa From Amazon

3. Elmer’s Multi-Purpose Spray Adhesive

The Velvet Crush Flocking Kit by Plaid is an all-in-one set designed to give your craft projects a soft, velvety texture. It includes colored flocking fibers or adhesive. It is a two-step process. I did change it up a little bit. I showed what I did below.

You can find the kit I got here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D8C84PM1?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamztheshabb-20&creativeASIN=B0D8C84PM1&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.3P1T9U2GJA6TW&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_mixed_d_asin

This paper mache Santa that I used is from Amazon. It is currently showing unavailable, but I will include the link just incase they restock him!

First, you’ll paint your item with the Velvet Crush adhesive that comes in the kit. I’ll admit—the adhesive looked a bit pink at first, which had me a little nervous. But don’t worry! Once you apply the flocking fibers, the color transforms and turns out beautifully vibrant.

I began by applying a good, even first layer of the adhesive to get a solid base. You’ll want to make sure it’s fully covered.

The instructions recommend letting the first layer dry for about an hour before going in with a second coat of adhesive.

I noticed the flocking wasn’t sticking quite as well as I hoped with the adhesive that came in the kit, so I grabbed my Elmer’s Multipurpose Spray Adhesive—and that did the trick! It gave me the hold and coverage I was looking for.

I would spray a section with the adhesive and then sprinkle the flocking powder on! It was really that easy!

Even though this DIY got a little messy, I love how the Santa turned out! It’s such a fun technique to try—especially if you’re looking to add a little texture and charm to your holiday decor.

If you’ve been curious about flocking, I definitely recommend giving it a try! It’s a simple way to add a cozy, velvety finish to your projects—and even with a little mess, the results are totally worth it. I had so much fun testing out the Velvet Crush kit on this Santa Let me know if you give it a go—I’d love to see what you create!
