How To Make A Rustic Fall Decoration

by blewis | Aug 19, 2024 | Fall/Halloween, Holiday | 42 comments

I found myself in the Dollar Tree looking at their Fall and Halloween decor. They have some cute wooden cut out’s that I want to get creative with. I thought it would be fun to give these wooden cut outs a rustic look.
The supplies that I’ll be using are listed down below.
1. Wooden cut out from the Dollar Tree
2. Hot glue
3. Dollar Tree wall tile
4. Scissors
5. Orange chalk paint by Waverly
6. Black acrylic paint
7. Rust Effect Paste from Amazon
8. Rust Effect Paint from Amazon
9. Paint brush
10. Wax paper
The first step is to trace the raised sections of the cut out onto a piece of wax paper.
Cut the pieces out and then trace them onto the wall tile.
Once you have the pieces traced onto the wall tile you’ll then cut them out.
Once you have the pieces cut out you’ll then glue them onto the wooden cut out.
Once I had the pieces glued in place I then painted the entire cut out with black acrylic paint.
Once the black paint was dry I then added the rust effect paste.
Once the rust effect paste was I then added some of the orange chalk paint.
Do not cover the entire cut out with the orange paint.
The last step is to add some of the rust effect paint over the orange paint.
This was so easy to make and turned out amazing. You can do this to a variety of cut outs that the Dollar Tree has. I hope you’ll get creative and give this a try.

Absolutely stunning!!! Love them both but leaning more toward the pumpkin🤭. You have such a creative mind. Thank you for sharing. And thank you for always making me smile.
PS: I have really needed lately. I fell out of bed 2 weeks ago and broke my ribs lots of pain. Of course it’s the same side as I did the same stupid thing 3 months ago. They didn’t hurt like this. So tuning into you and your sister Lisa distracts me and makes me happy. Love ya!
