We have been getting creative with recycled tin cans here at The Shabby Tree. A tin can makes a great craft item and can be used so many different ways. I am getting ready to change out my two tiered tray from Easter to Americana. I thought it would be fun to use a few recycled tin cans and create a few Americana storage containers for my two tiered tray.
The supplies I will be using are:
1. Recycled tin cans
2. Decorative small knobs
3. Drill and drill bit
4. Scissors
5. Scrapbook paper
6. Cream spray paint
7. Hot glue
The first thing I did was drill a hole in the center of my lid from the tin can. I have a can opener that opens the can and creates a smooth round edge around the lid. You can replace the lid on the can and use it as a small storage container.
I drilled the hole into the lid and then removed the label from the can and spray painted them both with the cream spray paint.
I then measured the can onto a piece of scrap paper. I used a paper cutter to cut my paper but you can cut it with scissors.
I traced the lid onto a different piece of scrapbook paper.
I cut the circle of paper out for my lid. You can paint the lid to the cover up the expiration date that is showing or you can just add the scrapbook paper. I am not glueing the paper on I will just be sitting it on top of the lid. You will want to add your knob through the hole and secure it in place with a nut.
I then wrapped the other piece of scrapbook paper around the can. I do not want to glue this paper to the can because I want to change out the paper for Fall. You can wrap the papers round the can and add just a small amount of hot glue to the one end of the paper to secure it to the other end of the paper.
This is so easy to create and there are so many different ways to get creative with this. I hope you will have fun and give it a try.
