Okay yes I’m obsessed with trees and as soon as I saw this green mop head in Home Depot I just knew I had to make a tree with it. I try to inspire you all to get creative and look at things in a different way. A mop head is not known to be a craft item but you can use it for so many different crafts. Because this mop head is green we are going to create a very simple and unique tree out of it!
Your main supply for this DIY is a green mop head. I got this mop head from Home Depot.
Some other supplies I will be using are:
1. Seam ripper
3. A variety of ribbons
4. Glue gun
5. A kabob stick
6. Four doilies for tree topper
7. A silver cup from a thrift store
8. A styrofoam cone (my cone is 4.8inches x 17.8 inches)
9. Floral pins
The first step is to take the seam ripper and remove all of the black ribbon going around the mop.
The next step is to cut off some of the black netting on the top of the mop.
I want my mop to hang longer then my styrofoam cone so I cut the tip of the cone off.
You will now wrap the black netting part of the mop around the top of the styrofoam cone.
I then added hot glue to hold the mop closed.
Be sure to come up above the tip of the cone when glueing the mop together.
I then added a few floral pins to help hold the mop secure to the cone.
Now it is time to start adding your ribbons. I first added one ribbon around the top black mesh part first. I added some hot glue to hold the ribbon in place.
Once I had a few ribbons wrapped around the top I then tied ribbons all throughout the mop.
I cut the loops on the bottom of the mop.
The more ribbons you knot to the mop the fuller the tree will be. I used cream ribbon and a thin silver tinsel. I did not measure any of my ribbons. I just cut pieces of ribbon and tied them to the strands of the mop.
I used four doilies and glued them to a kabob stick for the tree topper.
I tied a few strands of ribbon to the stick and then I placed the stick down into the top of the tree.
I also glued the tree to a silver cup to give some height to the tree.
This is very easy to make and you can use any color of ribbon you want.
I used a green mop head because it reminded me of a tree but you can create this tree with a white mop head too.
