I am finding myself thinking about Spring more and more these last few days. I love Fall and Winter but I really like to decorate for Spring and Easter. We have created a lot of items here at The Shabby Tree and I wanted to come up with a quick and easy way to create a bunny head ornament. I am getting ready to put our Spring and Easter tree together and I wanted to add a few bunny heads.
The main supply I will be using is a kids sock. You can leave this sock white or you can coffee stain it. I like to coffee the stain because I like a more primitive look. You can mix instant coffee in warm water and sometimes I like to add cinnamon and vanilla.
A few other items I will be using are:
1. Hot glue
2. Paint (black, pink and brown)
3. Scissors
4. Wire (I am using 18 gauge wire)
5. Foam balls (mine are 2.8 in)
6. Wire cutters
7. Tree stick (optional)
8. Elmers glue (optional)
9. Crystal glitter (optional)
10. Paint brush
The first step is to place the foam ball down into the sock.
I slowly cut towards the foam ball. I left about a half an inch up from the foam ball.
Next cut two pieces of your wire. I cut mine about 12 inches long.
You will want to bend each wire in half. This wire will form the shape of the ears.
I cut the sock according to how long I want the ears to be. The sock I am using has a different texture at the top so I just cut that area off. It was about 3 1/2 inches that I cut off.
You will place the two pieces of wire down into the foam ball.
Next you will want to glue the sock onto the wire forming your bunny ears.
I added hot glue down at the base of the wire and pinched the sock together.
Once the ears were formed I placed a small limb up into the bottom area of my bunny head.
This is an optional step. I added the tree limb so that I can stick the bunny head into my tree.
I then painted a pink in the center of the ears.
I used a black paint for the eyes.
I used a brown paint for the nose, mouth and whiskers.
I wanted to add a little sparkle to this bunny head so I used Elmer’s glue and a crystal glitter.
I painted the Elmer’s glue over the bunny head and then sprinkled on the crystal glitter.
This bunny head is so quick and easy to make. It can be hung on a tree or placed in a wreath. These would also make great bowl fillers for your dough bowl. I hope you will get creative and give this bunny head a try.
