If you’re following The Shabby Tree then you all know that I keep a variety of trees up all year long. I have been trying to find a few more containers for some of my smaller trees. There are a lot of different holiday buckets and containers out in the stores right now but I wanted something I can use all year long and does not necessarily have to be used just for a tree container. The Dollar Tree has a plastic laundry basket that I know we can turn into an amazing woven basket! This basket will look amazing for a tree container but can also be used as a storage basket.

You can find this plastic laundry basket in the Dollar Tree.

Some other supplies you will need are:

1. Glue gun

2. Scissors

3. Spray paint (I am using a nutmeg color)

4. Box cutter

5. Burlap ribbon (I am using 2 rolls which are 8in x 15ft)

I got my burlap ribbon from Hobby Lobby and it was half off.

The first thing I did was cut the rim of the laundry basket off with the box cutter.

Once you have the rim cut off you will then spray paint your basket. This is an optional step. I wanted my basket brown so I am using a nutmeg color spray paint.

I covered the top rim of the basket with a strip of burlap. I folded the burlap in 3 and glued it together.

Once you have your strip of ribbon folded then you will want to glue it over the top of the basket.

Adding the strip of ribbon to the top of the basket will give the top of the basket a finished look.

Now it is time to start weaving the burlap ribbon in and out through the basket. I glued the beginning together so that it will stay in place.

I went around twice for each section of the basket.

When I came to the end of my first roll of ribbon I just used the hot glue to attach the end to my second roll.

You will just keep weaving in and out until you have the whole basket complete.

When I got to the end I tucked the end into the bottom of the basket and glued it in place.

You can leave the bottom of the basket as is or you can add some of the burlap to the bottom.

I cut two pieces of the ribbon and glued them to the bottom of the basket.

I love how the burlap gives it a basket weaved look.

This basket can almost be used for anything but I’m very excited to use it as a tree container.

This is so easy to make and turns out to be an amazing basket. I hope you will all get creative and give it a try.
