Now that Easter is over I decided it is time to start pulling out all of my Americana decorations. I love incorporating all of the red, white and blue decorations for the summer. I have a variety of American flags but I wanted something different. We have been making a variety of rag items here at The Shabby Tree so I decided to create a rag flag.

The supplies you will need are:

1. Stick or dowel

2. Material and ribbon

3. Scissors

4.glue gun

5. Twine

6. Small white pom poms

You will want to cut or tear your material into strips. The width and length of your strips will depend on how big you want to make your flag. I am using a variety of material. Some of my material is solid and some is printed. I am also using some ribbon for my strips.

Once you have all of your strips cut you will want to start tying them onto your stick. You can tie them onto your stick a few different ways. I am tying one end of my strip of fabric to my stick.

I am alternating my fabric strips as I tie them across the stick.

You will do this until your stick is full.

I made my strips all different lengths. You can make them all even or do them all different like I did. This flag can be created as big or small as you want.

You will now need to have a piece of blue material to glue onto your flag. I cut a rectangle out of an old pair of denim jeans I had.

I am glueing my denim material onto my flag in the upper right corner. You can glue this to the right or left corner. I have seen this done in a variety of ways.

You will now need to add something to the material to resemble stars. I am adding a few small white pom poms that I coffee stained.

I am just hot glueing them onto the material.

Now you will need to add some twine for a hanger.

I am just wrapping the twine onto the ends of the stick and tying a knot.

This turned out amazing and it was so easy to make. I hope you will get creative and give it a try.
