I was recently in Michaels and I came across a few wooden items for a $1.00. These are great items to get creative with and I know exactly what I want yo do with 2 of them. I have a few paints by DecoArt that will allow me to turn 2 of the items I purchased into a fun and unique rustic frame.

The items that I will be using are :

1. One wooden cross from Michaels

2. One wooden frame from Michaels ( 3.7 in x 3.7 in)

3. Paint brush

4. DecoArt Americana Decor Metallics color Metallic Champagne Gold

5.DecoArt Americana acrylic paint color Milk Chocolate

6. Hot glue

7. Needle nose pliers

I will not be adding a photo to this frame so the first step I did was remove the metal prongs from the frame.

I removed all four metal prongs with needle nose wire cutters.

I painted the whole frame with the Metallic Champagne Gold colored metallic paint.

I set the frame aside to dry and I painted the wooden cross.

I painted the wooden cross with the Milk Chocolate colored paint by DecoArt.

I added a few strokes of the Milk Chocolate colored paint onto the frame.

The frame comes with a small wooden dowel to stand the frame up. I want to place a battery operated candle behind this frame to show through the opening of the frame. The dowel was in the center of the frame so I decided to cut it in half and add them to the ends of the frame as shown in photo below.

This allows the frame to stand up leaving the center area open for me to place a candle.

The last step is to glue the wooden cross into the front of the frame.

I added the hot glue only where the cross will be attached to the frame. You can place the cross onto the frame any where you want.

I love how this turned out and I love how the the Chocolate Brown paint gives it that rustic look.

I love to create fun and unique items and I think this looks so unique with the battery operated candle behind it. This will look amazing on my fireplace mantel.
You can find both of the DecoArt items on their website right here:
I hope you will get creative and give this a try.
