I recently discovered paper placemats and I think I’m hooked. Being a crafter I can’t believe that I have never heard of paper placemats. These are an amazing item to use for crafting. You can find these in a few stores and on Amazon. You will see me using these a lot on different crafts. Right now I will be doing a picnic basket makeover using a paper placemat.

The supplies I will be using are:

1. One wooden picnic basket

2. Paper placemat from Amazon

3. Mod podge

4. Vintage Effect wash by DecoArt (colors patina, red-orange and beige)

5. Paint brush

6. Sanding sponge

The first step is to apply the mod podge to the top of the picnic basket.

I then placed the paper placemat on top of the mod podge. You want to be sure to use your hand and rub all over the paper placemat. This will get any wrinkles or air bubbles out.

I then ripped of the corners of paper placemat. You can cut the corners but I wanted a more rustic look.

I then added a coat of mod podge over the paper placemat.

I wanted to add a little color to the basket so I painted on the Vintage Effect wash by DecoArt.

I used three different colors of the Vintage Effect wash. The three colors I used are beige, patina and red-orange. These three colors went very well with the colors on the paper placemat.

Once I painted the colors where I wanted them I then started to sand the top of the basket.

I wanted to sand the basket to help give it a more rustic look.

This was so easy to create and I just love how it turned out. These paper placemats are so much fun to get creative with.
